Honor Indiana’s mayors, hear from racing legends
Once a year, racing fans, business leaders, Indiana mayors, and the 33 500 Festival Princesses gather at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 500 Festival Breakfast at the Brickyard, presented by Midwestern Engineers, Inc. At this special event, you’ll hear from racing insiders and gain unique insight into racing’s rich history and bright future.
The 2017 Breakfast at the Brickyard will feature three-time Indianapolis 500 winner, Johnny Rutherford. As our honored guest, Johnny will be interviewed by Bob Jenkins at the event as he tells stories of his 30-plus years behind the wheel of an Indy car.
Rutherford is one of just nine drivers to have won the Indianapolis 500 three or more times, making trips to the winner’s circle in 1974, ’76, and ’80. Fittingly named “Lone Star JR” due to his Texas roots, the three-time winner retired from racing in 1994 and went on to serve as an IndyCar pace car driver for many years.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Rutherford, who won two Indy 500’s with McLaren, will serve as the McLaren-Honda-Andretti team ambassador throughout the Month of May. McLaren will be racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time in 38 years as they’ve partnered with Honda and Andretti to field a car in the Indy 500, with Fernando Alonso driving.
“We’re honored to have Johnny Rutherford join us for this year’s 500 Festival Breakfast at the Brickyard, presented by Midwestern Engineers, Inc.,” said Bob Bryant, president and CEO of the 500 Festival. “With more than 30 years of racing history, including a legendary run at the Indianapolis 500, we know Johnny has a lot of great stories. We can’t wait to give him the stage and relive those moments before a great day out at IMS.”
Along with hearing from Rutherford, attendees can enjoy the following as part of the day’s festivities:
- Have a hearty Hoosier breakfast at the Plaza Pavilion
- Tour the garages
- Attend that day’s Indianapolis 500® qualifications
- Witness the crowning of the 500 Festival Queen
- Honor Indiana’s Mayors
