Attendees of the 2008 Regions 500 Festival Snakepit Ball, presented by Cindy and Paul Skjodt will be dancing and swaying to the music of R&B super group the O’Jays. The O’Jays, are living legends after making international hits for more than 40 years. The dynamic group will entertain guests at the May 24 gala, the eve of the 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500.
Taking place in the Indiana Roof Ballroom, the Snakepit Ball has become a race-eve tradition. Known as the place to see the stars, the black-tie preferred party includes red carpet arrivals by celebrities in town for race weekend and special VIP guests. Dinner and dancing will round out the celebration.
Formed in Ohio in 1958, the group includes Eddie Levert, Sr., Walter Williams, Sr., and Eric Nolan. The O’Jays were at the forefront of hits in the 1970’s such as Back Stabbers, Love Train, For the Love of Money, Use Ta Be My Girl and Darlin’ Darlin’ Baby. In all, the group has had 24 top ten hits and 59 total charted songs.
The popularity of the O’Jays has spanned generations. The group song For the Love of Money was chosen as the theme song to Donald Trump’s television show “The Apprentice.” They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004.
The Snakepit Ball will begin at 6 p.m. with celebrity and guest arrivals; followed by dinner at 7 p.m. WISH TV 8 will televise live from the event’s red carpet arrivals.
