Daylight Savings Time/Eastern Time Zone

For those of you who are traveling to Indianapolis from outside of the state, Indianapolis now observes Daylight Savings Time, and is in the Eastern Time Zone. The Mini-Marathon start time will remain at 7:30 a.m. EDT.

Race Day Parking
Arrive early downtown to give yourself plenty of time to find parking. Many downtown streets will be closed to traffic and public parking in preparation for the race. Several parking facilities will be open for event parking, and street meter parking is free on Saturdays. Please keep in mind that due to street closings, not all routes into the various parking locations will be available. Please check /marathon/MiniStreetClosings.asp for a street closure map the week of the Mini-Marathon. The following parking garages will be open at 6 a.m. for the event:

IUPUI Campus Lots; White River State Park Garage; State Government Center Garage, on Missouri off Maryland Street; American United Life Tower, One American Square; World of Wonder Garage, off Maryland and Illinois Streets; Clay Pool Court Garage, Washington and Illinois Streets; Plaza Parking, 109 S. Capitol Avenue; Hyatt Hotel Parking, One S. Capitol Avenue; and Capitol Commons, 10 S. Capitol Avenue.

Host Hotel
Special rates are being offered by The Westin, the host hotel for the Mini-Marathon, 5K and Pasta Dinner. The Westin is ideally located adjacent to the start line and Health & Fitness Expo, and just a couple blocks from the finish line. The 500 Festival also offers participants special discounts at preferred hotels. For reservations at The Westin or one of our preferred hotels, please call (800) 556-INDY or (317) 684-2573. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
While you’re participating in the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon or the Finish Line 500 Festival 5K, bring family members or friends along to help out as volunteers. From assisting at the Health & Fitness Expo for the days leading up to the race, to decorating the Victory Mile, to assisting in the Rest & Recovery Area, we invite guests to be part of the action and celebration. Are you part of a group or club? The 500 Festival has many opportunities for groups to get involved.

As proud partners of the 500 Festival Volunteer Program, the Indiana Blood Center and Marsh thank you for giving back to the community. The Indiana Blood Center relies on volunteer blood donations from people like you every day. Volunteers, the lifeblood of the 500 Festival.  Marsh “values you” and your role in this community as a volunteer.

PARTICIPANT SAFETY
The 500 Festival strives to make the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon the safest event of its type. However, events do occur that are outside of the control of the 500 Festival. Examples of these types of events include weather emergencies (severe thunderstorms or tornadoes) and public emergencies (fires or automobile accidents).

If a weather emergency occurs, staff and volunteers along the course will immediately begin notifying the participants. This notification will consist of changing the flags at the mile markers, verbal notification at pit areas and mile markers, and through the use of the Emergency Management weather alerting sirens. If a severe weather emergency does occur, you should seek emergency shelter immediately along the course and stay in that area until the weather situation passes.

In the event of a public emergency along the race course, you should follow the directions provided by public safety officials and race staff and volunteers. In rare instances, it may be necessary to either close the racecourse or reroute the participants due to the emergency. If this occurs, it is being done for the safety of the participants.

Please remember that safety is our primary concern.

The 500 Festival reserves the right to cancel, delay or change the race to a non-scored run in case of extreme weather or other conditions affecting the safety of the participants. A flag system will be used along the course (at mile markers) to alert you to weather conditions.

FLAG WARNING SYSTEM:  There will be a simple flag color system along the course to help warn participants of weather related or course related problems. Flags are located at each mile marker along the course. Please be aware of the following flags:

GREEN FLAG- Normal.
YELLOW FLAG-The heat index is at a point that runners/walkers should slow down and drink plenty of water.
RED FLAG-Dangerous weather. Runners and walkers should slow down and take plenty of water. Timing of the event has been stopped and no awards will be given out after this action has taken place.
BLACK FLAG-Race has been cancelled due to extreme weather or course emergency. Events such as lightning, tornado or human disaster has or is occurring and all participants need to seek shelter immediately.
* No refunds and the race will not be rescheduled if it is shortened or cancelled for any reason.
