“I’ve registered for the race, now what?”
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a first time participant, you know that nutrition plays a key role in your performance. But often, this component of training is either overlooked or misunderstood even though there is a wealth of nutritional information out there. Bottom line-it can get pretty confusing. That’s where this can help.
Mary Snell, Director of Nutrition and Wellness for Marsh Supermarkets, a registered dietitian and for more than twenty five years counseled, educated, and has given nutritional advice to many individuals on many different topics. Her focus will be to provide you with nutrition information, guidelines, and suggestions on what to eat while you train for the big race. The goal is to make sure your bodies are properly fueled with a high performance diet that is high in carbohydrates, moderate in protein, low in fat, and plenty of fluids. New links will be available monthly to help guide you through your training. Click links below to read more:Nutrition 101

What To Eat Before The Event
The best way to train is to get into a local training program. There are many choices and options from the beginner to the full marathon runner. Many programs are affiliated with charities or partner with Team in Training (Indiana and Illinois only), and many partner with other Indianapolis based programs.
The 500 Festival is not affiliated with, nor does it endorse or recommend, any training programs or training organizations listed below. It is the sole responsibility of each participant to fully investigate any training program which the participant may wish to use.
