2010 500 Festival Embraces the Pace of the Month of May

Theme Also Recognizes Centennial Era of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway®

INDIANAPOLIS (November 12, 2010) – Each year thousands of people from around the world embrace the magical month of May in Indianapolis.  During this time the 500 Festival’s nearly 50 events and programs set the pace for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, The Indianapolis 500®. The 500 Festival announced today the theme for the 2010 season is “Embrace the Pace: Honoring the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway®.”

“This year’s theme is fitting for the 500 Festival because we offer such a wide variety of cultural, educational and social events which touch so many people at the same time,” said Kirk Hendrix, President and CEO of the 500 Festival. ”Whether you are among the 35,000 runners of the Mini-Marathon or one of 300,000 spectators along the Parade route, we offer so many opportunities which set the pace and excitement leading up to the Indy 500.”

So many people are embracing the month of May in Indianapolis each year.  Signature events like IPL 500 Festival Parade and OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon showcase the city on a world stage and connect the community in large proportions.  Nearly 7,000 volunteers give their time and energy to make the month a success. This May you can celebrate the 500 Festival theme – “Embrace the Pace” with a month-long roster of events culminating with the 2010 Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 30 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway®.

The 500 Festival’s mission is to advocate and celebrate the spirit, heritage and legacy of the Indianapolis 500®. Through social, cultural and educational events and programs, the 500 Festival enhances the quality of life for all citizens of our communities.

500 Festival events and programs celebrate the success of the Indianapolis 500 and add to the quality of life for the citizens of Indiana and their guests. The events and programs, mostly free and produced largely by volunteers, enhance the image of Indianapolis and Indiana to more than 500,000 attendees by showcasing the city and state’s cultural, educational and social benefits to the world.
