500 Festival opens Volunteer Registration System for 2010 Season
INDIANAPOLIS (January 20, 2010) – Whatever your talent may be, the 500 Festival wants to put it to good use. The 500 Festival announced today that Volunteer Registration for the 2010 500 Festival Volunteer Program is now open. Those interested in volunteering can sign-up by going to www.500festival.com. The non-profit 500 Festival is looking for volunteers to help produce a variety of community events and programs that celebrate the 500 Festival’s 2010 theme, Embrace the Pace, and the 2010 Indianapolis 500®.
Volunteers play a critical role in producing the fun and excitement that generates throughout the 500 Festival events. With over 100 areas of opportunity to volunteer, the 500 Festival Volunteer Program gives anyone the chance to see the Festival’s events up close.
Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals or groups in more than 100 different areas including the nation’s largest half-marathon and one of the nation’s premier parades. The mission of the 500 Festival is to advocate and celebrate the spirit, heritage and legacy of the Indianapolis 500®. Through social, cultural and educational events and programs, the 500 Festival enhances the quality of life for all citizens of our communities.
The 500 Festival, a not-for-profit volunteer organization, was created in 1957 to organize civic events celebrating the greatest race in the world. Over the past 53 years, the 500 Festival has grown to become one of the largest festivals in the nation.
Last year, over 500,000 Hoosiers and visitors participated in nearly 50 events and programs throughout the month of May. Whether they were athletes running the Mini, fourth grade students participating in the Education Program, families enjoying the state’s largest festival for kids or spectators being dazzled by one of the nation’s premier parades, they were there, celebrating the legacy.
