As a nonprofit organization, we rely heavily on volunteers, and we think we’ve got the best ones around! Each year, 7,000 individuals volunteer their time with the 500 Festival. With a wide variety of programs and events, there’s a task that’s sure to fit every interest and ability! Here are just a few opportunities available this year.
Study Trip Guides
Time Commitment: 8:15 a.m. – 2:30 pm Location: Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2017 Dates:April 4, 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 18, 20, 21, 24, 26, 28 Fourth grade students from across Indiana take a field trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to learn about the history of the Indy 500 and the 500 Festival. As a guide, you’ll lead classes to the different learning stations throughout the day. We will provide the schedule and training – all you have to do is lead the way!
Chase 500 festival kids’ Day & chase 500 festival rookie run (may 13) Games and Inflatables
Time commitment: 11:15am – 4:00pm It’s not a festival if there isn’t a ring toss, bean bag toss or football throw. And, it certainly wouldn’t be Kids’ Day without the big castle bounce house for all of the little princes and princesses! Join in the fun and laughter by assisting the little ones in and out of the bounce houses manage the various games. Rookie Run Course Assistants
Time commitment: 11:30 am – 4:00 pm Help set up the course, provide support at the start and finish lines and help with crowd control to ensure the safety of our little racers.
IPL 500 festival parade (may 27) Usher
Time commitment: 9:00am – 2:00pm Ushers will greet Parade spectators, show them to their seats. Once the parade starts you’ll get to sit back, relax and enjoy one of the nation’s largest and most celebrated parades!
