The mission of the 500 Festival is to produce life-enriching events and programs that celebrate the spirit and legacy of the Indianapolis 500 and foster a positive impact on the city of Indianapolis and state of Indiana.

I cannot begin to explain how true this phrase is. The 500 Festival Staff and interns live and breathe this phrase every day, and it is one of the coolest things to be part of.

My five months as a 500 Festival intern were the best five months of my life. I got to learn from an amazing group of event professionals, all while having the time of my life!

Specifically, I was the Volunteer Program Intern during the 2017 season. Some days you feel like the intern for the Mini-Marathon, or the intern for the Education Program depending on what you're doing or what event is coming up. You truly get to be a part of every aspect of the Festival, from marketing, to events, to customer service, and even design! Everyone helps out where they can and the 500 Festival does a fantastic job of letting you experience each department.

I got lucky with the Festival being my very first internship. I knew I wanted to intern at the Festival because I heard from professors and previous interns that the 500 Festival Internship was a coveted spot in the world of aspiring event professionals. Boy, was I right?! I got to meet so many people, be a part of some of the city’s largest events, and actually get a feel for what an event looks like from start to finish.

As an intern, you are given the opportunity to make some decisions and offer your ideas like any other staff member. They also give their interns ample professional development opportunities.

I can say with full confidence that the 500 Festival Intern Program is one of the best and most organized intern programs in the city. You will walk away with 10 new best friends, contacts, accomplishments, pride, and you'll be one step closer to your professional goals.
