The 500 Festival today revealed the designs of the participant shirt and finisher medal for the 2023 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the 2023 Delta Dental 500 Festival 5K. This year’s shirt and medal feature iconic elements of the Indianapolis 500, celebrating the history and influence of the race on the culture and city of Indianapolis. The 47th OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon will take place on Saturday, May 6, in downtown Indianapolis, and registration is available now at indymini.com/register.
“The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon has become a beloved Month of May tradition for the community of Indianapolis and participants from all over the world,” said Bob Bryant, president and CEO of the 500 Festival. “The rich history of the Indianapolis 500 that is incorporated into our race creates a unique experience for participants and we are honored to represent the traditions of May in this year’s shirt and medal.”
Participant Shirt
The front of the 2023 OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon participant shirt features the famed Yard of Bricks, located on the front stretch of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and at mile 6 of the race. A significant draw for many participants is the opportunity to run or walk a lap around the track. Many also stop to kneel and kiss the bricks, a historic Indy 500 tradition. The shirt also celebrates May by incorporating the iconic red, white, and blue colors of the Borg-Warner ribbon, which are also displayed in the medal design. These colors evoke the sentiment of Memorial Day, which is honored throughout the Month of May and along the Gold Mile, a mile-long stretch of the Mini-Marathon that pays tribute to fallen service members and their families. The royal blue color in the shirt compliments the royal blue color of the hat, which you’ll see below.
The participant shirt is long-sleeved, made of a polyester blend fabric, and is available in men’s and women’s technical fit. Participants may make check their size with our size chart.
Finisher Medal
This year’s finisher medal represents the significance of the Borg-Warner victory wreath in Indianapolis 500 history. An iconic element of the victory celebrations at the Indianapolis 500, the wreath depicted in the medal also represents the 13.1-mile victory of the Mini-Marathon participants. Adorned in checkered flags, 33 white orchids, and a red, white, and blue ribbon, the Borg-Warner wreath is a symbol of tradition, celebration, and achievement.
Within the wreath is a shield etched with an image of thousands of participants flooding the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as they conquer a lap around the track, and a triumphant victory toward the finish line. The race distance and date are proudly displayed on the medal as well.
Participant Hat
This year’s participant hat, available to the first 15,000 who register, features royal blue and white panels, with a bold black and white checkered swoosh across the bill. On the front, the iconic 500 Festival stitched logo accompanies the OneAmerica Mini-Marathon event name. Adorning the side, the #WhyIMini tag line invites participants to share their reasons for completing the #IndyMini with a larger online community.
“It’s a clear sign that spring -- and the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon are around the corner as the 500 Festival debuts the medal and apparel reveal,” said Chris Pohl, vice president of human resources at OneAmerica, and chair of the Mini-Marathon committee. “As a runner, the new medal and shirt design, accompanied by our OneAmerica hat, are exciting to see and showcase a new set of race collectibles for the thousands of loyal participants. Our associates and volunteers are proud to cheer on the runners and again support this revered event.”
